Lasagna

There’s nothing like a classic lasagna dish for a cozy  night at home. Savor the old-world flavor that leaves you satisfied.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef (or your favorite substitute)
  • 1 packet of onion soup mix
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 1- 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1- 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • Add 1 lb. ricotta. Or substitute with cottage cheese.
  • 1 lb. of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 tbsp. of shredded parmesan cheese
  • Salt to taste if desired

Directions

1) Cook ½ lb. lasagna noodles, or try the uncooked version of noodles as mentioned below*.  Noodles cook great and save time, and those steps to cook separately.

2) Heat oil in a pan and add dry spices to blend flavors.

3) Add meat and brown. If you’re not using lean meat, you don’t have to drain the fat.

4) Add water and stir in soup mix, then add tomato paste and sauce.  Use low heat to simmer for 25 minutes.

5) Prepare lasagna noodles according to package directions or use uncooked noodles (add ¼ cup water if doing this) and layer as follows.

6) In a 12×8 cooking dish or pan: layer starting with noodles, then meat sauce, and finally a layer of cheese. Continue to layer until all ingredients are gone. Make sure to end your dish with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese as the top layer.

7) Sprinkle on Parmesan cheese.

8) Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cook uncovered.
